Varun Dhawan opened up about the recent discussions surrounding the rising entourage costs of actors and said that while actors need to ‘behave themselves’, it is also important for producers to be friendly.
Varun was speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming romantic-comedy, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. He spoke about how he feels like a family member while working with Dharma Productions, primarily because how actors are treated with respect by the banner. He said, “Producers also have to behave as family members. That also doesn’t happen. We can keep blaming actors for this. But ultimately, it’s the actor who is called-out and becomes the face of all the criticism. Stories come out, blind articles are written—all the muck is thrown at actors.”
He added, “You need good producers also. Actors should definitely behave themselves much better. But producers also need to create a friendly and family-like environment. If someone comes from an arrogant approach, that’s where the problem begins.”
Director Shashank Khaitan shared his views on the matter and said that it will not help in pointing fingers at each other. “Coming together collectively and backing each other is the way forward. We need to protect the integrity of the industry. By talking negative about our own industry, we are opening ourselves to more criticism and making us soft targets. We need to solve all the problems behind closed-doors,” Shashank said.
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Akshay Oberoi and Maniesh Paul in pivotal roles. It marks the second collaboration between Varun and Janhvi, following their first film together, Bawaal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, which released in 2023.
The film is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan and will be released in theatres on October 2.
